Camden Clog will be hosting a Workshop Day on Saturday 10th April 2010 at Cecil Sharp House in Camden, London. We will be teaching four of Pat Tracey's dances:
- Beginners - Lancashire Irish.
Based on Pat Tracey's recollections of party nights in the houses of Irish cotton workers in Nelson, this is a simple introduction to their mixture of Lancashire and Irish styles - roll up the carpet, get out the whiskey and go for it!
- Improvers - Sailors Hornpipe.
An easy and effective version of Pat's humourous stage dances, including features such as climbing the rope, saluting the officer and, of course, drinking the rum, using both foot and arm movements.
- Intermediate - Whitby Hornpipe.
Written for Whitby Folk Festival, this lively dance has an intriguing, but not too demanding, mixture of hornpipe steps and jig steps danced to a hornpipe rhythm. Can be choreographed into complex patterns for a group, or left alone and danced solo as you prefer.
- Advanced - Heel and Toe "C" Routine.
Heel and toe steps are the earliest steps that we know of, dating at least from the first half of the 19th century, and were taught to Pat by her mother and grandfather. With lots of work on the upbeat, jumping and circling and most parts of the clog used, this is an intricate showy dance.
- Morris Jigs.
For non-clog dancers Laurel Swift will be running a workshop on Morris Jigs. Expect something in the inimitable, energetic Morris Offspring style.
